Severe Firefox bug is disabling all extensions

A bug related to expiration of a security certificate used to verify addons is causing all Firefox addons to be be disabled. If you use Firefox and have addons installed you will have noticed that they suddenly all stopped working.

Firefox has published info on how to enable the “studies” feature in privacy settings which will install a “study” that can fix this. If you use Linux this fix may not available. (UPDATE: The “study” fix does work with Firefox on at least some versions of Ubuntu but does not with Debian).

An immediate way to fix it is to go into about:config and set the following flag’s value from true to false:
xpinstall.signatures.required

After this, restart Firefox and all addons should be re-enabled.

Obviously this is just a short-term fix and this flag should be reset to true ASAP once a fix is released. If you do use this fix do not install any more addons and do not update any addons.

Firefox, wtf?
