From a Systems Management perspective, Daylight Savings Time is simply outrageous. We have to remember that it was created by Ben Franklin in the era of the horse and buggy. Most people did not even have clocks, much less exist in environments where the precise measurement and keeping of time was ubiquitous. If a team of Systems Management experts came together to consider time keeping, there is no way in hell that they would ever approve of the implementation of Daylight Savings Time today because it goes against so many fundamental principles.
One of the most important principles is that you simply do not mess with any system unless there is a very valid, pressing reason to do so. Otherwise, leave the systems alone. You do not tamper with mission critical systems just because.
And I would say that changing the billions of timekeeping devices across the world qualifies as being an instance of critical. It is just brain-dead stupid.
But even on the most practical levels it is a disaster. There are 8 timekeeping devices that I use which, twice per year, I have to manually adjust the time on. 3 watches. A timer/clock in my kitchen. The car stereo’s clock. Another small alarm clock I keep in the car. A wall clock in my home. To be forced to change all of these twice per year – that is outrageous.
And I simply cannot understand how we are supposed to be living in a time when people are becoming more intelligent, yet here is this glaringly obviously screwed up thing which no one even speaks up against. And if it is the case that our political leaders are incapable of recognizing the severe problem and of fixing it, then it is indicative of how messed up our political systems are as well.
