Why can’t Windows be replaced with Linux?

Have been setting up a new laptop running Windows 7. Had to abort installing Windows 8 because even though the machine is only like 3 years old, the maker of the graphics chip is orphaning it and not releasing a Win8 driver. This despite all the hype about Win8.

Anyhow, installing Win7 and its absolutely insane. After the installation it had to get 147 updates. After that there were more and more sets of updates and continual rebooting. Its still updating right now.

Linux can be installed in 20-30 minutes and be completely updated. Unless there’s a new kernel there’s no need to reboot. Updated modules can be built and reloaded without having to shut the system down. Services can be stopped and restarted when necessary. Wtf is going on with Windows? Seriously, how come computer makers don’t want something better? Why won’t companies like Adobe port their apps to Linux?
