Below is an official statement from the campaign of Ellen Lee Zhou opposing the city’s support of annual 420 cannabis-related activities.
We oppose the city’s support for the 420 events because they send the wrong message to youth, support lawlessness, increase crime, have a negative impact on health, and are a nuisance to law-abiding residents of the city.

Dear Friends of the Media and San Franciscans,
Ellen Lee Zhou for Mayor 2019 Committee strongly opposed our current San Francisco administration supports illegal activities such as 420 annually that violates the federal law. It is immoral. It is illegal. It is unhealthy! It wastes public health care! It violates the U.S. constitution! We received so many complaints from people who are impacted by this lawless event annually at San Francisco Golden Gate Park. The 420 event in Golden Gate Park destroys family values and gives the wrong message to children and youth. It is a lawless event! Who is in charge with the law enforcement unit in San Francisco? Who approved such illegal permit? Who are the people support drug dealers? How did the homeless ended up dying on the streets?
