But I don’t feel like going to a church and listening to a sermon. The only sermon I want to hear is that of the four right kinds of striving. In this world of pathological altruism and delusion which leads to suffering and destruction, the teaching on the four right kinds of striving explains how to decrease suffering and increase enlightenment.
Increasing what is unwholesome and decreasing what is wholesome, whether arisen or unarisen, either out of malevolence, ignorance, or delusion, is not something I want to hear about, and not something that will help anyone.
Spiritual reality is often inconvenient. It’s easier to shirk, to avoid, to skirt reality than to face unpleasant facts and difficult choices. Hexagram 8 deals with this concept: The idea of holding together – affinity. What is the basis for most affinity among people. You will find that much of it is superfluous and even destructive. That is why the text says to divine again – one has to continually question the motivations behind one’s affinity. Are the motives totally pure and wholesome, or unwholesome and destructive? How difficult is it – in this situation of the world and of society – to really maintain wholesomeness?
There is a home video I have from the time when I was a toddler. I am with cousins, aunts, uncles and siblings. It is winter and we are at the edge of a forest, surrounded by trees, near a small stream, riding on sleds down an icy track that they created by carrying buckets of water. We are all dressed very dapper. Even though we were by no means wealthy, there is a certain classiness about us, the way we dressed, the way we comported ourselves towards each other.
Something about that video says a lot about the people we were. That ice slick we were sliding down was created through our effort. It was made with our own hands, carrying buckets of water, in a forest. The clothes we were wearing – at the time it would all still have been made in the United States. The toys we had, the tools we used – all made in America. My uncles and father – hard working men who literally built America’s greatness – and who really received very little back – in fact were betrayed when their children -myself and my cousins – now have to live in a society sold out to the highest bidder and invaded.
The disaster of slavery – chattel slavery that existed for the sake of labor to help “the economy” at a time when agricultural and other machines didn’t exist – the disaster is far from over and is still unfolding. The great migration after the Civil War towards the north was into our cities, and our cities are still in the process of decaying to this day. The homes of my grandparents and my parents when they were young – those neighborhoods are lost.
On top of it we have new disasters being unleashed upon us. We are being invaded by mass swarms of illiterate people with low IQs and are told it is good for “the economy” and also is “humanitarian”.
Just like an individual, a society has choices to make if it wants to increase wholesomeness and decrease unwholesomeness. What is unfolding now all around is destruction. The type of destruction easily goes unnoticed because what is destroyed doesn’t announce itself. There are things that language does not easily express, but things which are very real and very significant spiritually, which when they are destroyed it is catastrophic. There may be profit to be made from the destruction. It may be claimed to be “good” and “humane” by fools and scammers.
Our cities are being destroyed. Our country is being destroyed. Where do you want to start with this? An entire industry – the tech industry – literally being handed on a platter to Indians. Tens of millions of illiterate people flooding across the border, taking precisely the jobs which kept lower-middle class and people on the margins of society afloat. Jobs that students worked while going through college.
We are being gaslighted and brainwashed. Our media is full of lies and pushes constant propaganda. Advertisements, movies, magazine articles, and tv shows push interracial relationships. Search engine results are deliberately skewed to brainwash and push agendas. White people – my people – my ancestors – are being genocided. That is unwholesome.
I don’t feel like sitting in a church this Christmas listening to a sermon, listening to some deluded person telling me what is supposed to be virtuous. I know what is virtuous. All I have to do is watch that old home movie.
