Our Number System Should Be Based on 12, not 10

What time is it? It’s dek do el and seven do two seconds.

A 12-based number system is vastly superior to the crappy 10-based one that is in current use. Humanity really needs to switch.

The 12-based number system is sometimes called duodecimal but that’s a bad name. Because it’s basically still referring to the 10-based number system in its name. Instead the proper name for it is dozenal. Meet dozenal, the number-system for the future.

I have no doubt that if there are intelligent beings elsewhere in the universe they probably use dozenal as their number system.

People initially think that switching to a different number system is a pain. That might be true if, for example, we were switching to hexadecimal – the 16-based number system. But it definitely is not true for dozenal. Quell your fears people: This is easy to learn and actually fun to use. It is actually a better and more logical number system than decimal!

To really start using dozenal you only need to do a few things:

1. Completely stop using the concept ten and all numbers that are multiples of ten: twenty, thirty, forty, etc. Ten and all its multiples are gone forever.

2. You have to learn the two new digits dek ↊ and el ↋. Because keyboards don’t yet have keys for dek and el you can use whatever you want for them as a convenience. For example you could use X and E.

3. 10 is called do. 20 is two do. Etc.

4. Learn to count: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ↊ ↋ 10

Dozenal adds two more digits:
↊ is “dek” (would be 10 in decimal notation, hence its name)
↋ is “el” (would be 11 in decimal, also hence its name)

10 is do (a dozen or 12 in decimal)
11 is one do one
12 is one do two
20 is two do
21 is two do one
100 is gro (a gross or 144 in decimal)
111 is one gro one do one
etc.

Here’s a hint: When you see a number like 10 say to yourself “one do” and think “one dozen”. When you see 20 say to yourself “two do” and think “two dozen”. That will help you grasp the concept of dozenal numbers very quickly.

I honestly wish I were a gradeschool teacher because I would love to teach my kids dozenal.  My classroom would be a dozenal-only-zone.  The school administration would probably reprimand me and then try to fire me, but fuck it.
