For some reason I’ve always been interested in Yemen. I know to a lot of people the entire mid-east region is just one big blur. But there are very distinct cultures and traditions. Yemen’s culture goes back to the ancient time of the Queen of Sheba. Yemen’s main city – Sanaa – is believed to actually be Sheba.
I wrote a long time ago about the temple to the Moon god – or was it goddess?. Apparently in this documentary is the first time it was actually filmed.
Also in watching this documentary, I feel some connection with this culture. The men sitting around in the room with the frankincense burning, and a man playing the ud and singing. Its worth noting that the ud is the precursor to the lute.
