If you use Lastpass then you may notice occasionally that its autofill feature may suddenly stop working with a particular website. I have noticed this with several sites recently. Investigating this, I found the following advice at lastpass.com:
LastPass won’t save or autofill my data for a particular site – is there a workaround?
1. First check that:
Your LastPass Icon is red (in Safari, the * will turn black instead of red)
Your Preferences are enabled to autofill by going to the LastPass Icon > Preferences > General > make sure that “Automatically Fill Login Information” is enabled.
The site is not ‘Flash’ or ‘Silverlight’ – LastPass doesn’t support these sites. Right-click on the site’s login fields and look at the context menu information to check2. Still doesn’t autofill? Re-save the site by deleting the entry and logging in as if for the first time.
3. Check that you didn’t add the site as a ‘Never URL’. Check in your LastPass Icon > My LastPass Vault > Settings > Never URLs.
4. If you still can’t save or autofill, force-save the site with the Save All Entered Data feature.
5. If your site uses a multiple-page login, use the Save All Entered Data function on each page to save your information for each page separately.
6. If you still have trouble, submit a support ticket by clicking the link at the bottom.
I would say that 1. above are the obvious things: Make sure you are actually logged-in to Lastpass and that the appropriate option for autofill is actually enabled in the Preferences.
Given that, 2. is actually interesting advice which is to delete the site in Lastpass (make sure you copy the logon credentials somewhere first!) and re-save it by logging in to the site again. This in fact has worked for me several times.
I think this happens because websites do evolve over time. The logon pages may change significantly enough that Lastpass no longer recognizes them and hence its best to delete the site and start over.
Beyond that, I simply cannot understand how anyone in this day an age could not be using Lastpass or something similar. Now most browsers have their own autofill features and these browsers also have sync capability which means the autofill data saved on one device can be available on others. But I still like Lastpass because it is not tied to any one software vendor and is truly cross-platform and cross-browser compatible. Also, I like the fact that they are a professional business whose sole focus is on the provision of this product and making it as secure and functional as possible.
