Today I would like to announce the creation of a new PIL schema category: Data.
The new data category is intended for the type of people who, when they read a news article about a recently published report which provides some type of statistical information – example of these might be reports on socioeconomic factors, human rights, environmental factors, or many other things. For example, various bodies of the UN often release reports which compile and provide statistical information for a range of countries. As an example of this type of data please see countyhealthrankings.org’s County Health Rankings & Roadmaps. On this page is available 2015 California Data in the form of an .xls spreadsheet.
If you’re like me you are the type of person who actually prefers to download and view the actual data that is published by various organizations. One might think that perhaps such data as the above spreadsheet might go into a category such as “Public Health”. “Health” or “Public Health” might be categories that could be used. But as I have a lot of such data, and it is not always practical to file it away under subcategories which later may be difficult to reference, I now prefer the “Data” category.
If at some future point in time I want to go back and find the spreadsheet, it will be much easier to just go to the “Data” folder. If the number of items in that folder starts to become large, then at that point I would want to start subcategorizing.
