New batteries charge to 70% in 2 minutes, last 20 years

People often discount headlines like these because, while they may sound amazing, sometimes they only reflect some special test condition in a laboratory, or only apply to one particular property of something while other significantly limiting factors still exist.

But this appears to not be the case with this headline. Proffessor Chen Xiaodong, research fellow Tang Yuxin, and PhD student Deng Jiyang have created a new anode to replace the lithium-graphite in lithium batteries. The new anode uses titanium-dioxide nanotubes and batteries which use them represent an enormous advance forward.

Imagine a tablet, phone, or other device whose battery will outlive the life of the device. Imagine charging a vehicle or any other device in only minutes instead of hours.

Apparently in a couple years time these batteries will be in production.
