Person from Spain 7,000 years ago

La Braña 1, the name used to baptize a 7,000-year-old individual from the Mesolithic Period, had blue eyes and dark skin.

7,000 years ago is in the time called the “Mesolithic” which simply translates into “Middle-stone” age. During this time humans had advanced a lot and were getting more into growing crops and making things. It was around this time or perhaps a little later that the wheel was invented and humans would have started using animals to pull simple carts. This is also around the time, perhaps just a little before, people figured out how to make bronze and from which they could then make things like axes.

An article about the DNA analysis of these pepole found at the La Braña-Arintero site near present day Leon, Spain, states that their DNA is not related to present-day inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula but is related to peoples in Northern Europe.

I’m sure people didn’t live as long then, and they did not have the advantages of things like modern medicine which has made great improvements in the quality of life for humans, but sometimes I wish I could live back then. Just a simple life among the people of my tribe, enjoying being a creature of Earth from day to day.

I look around and see the waste, the ruin, the stupidity and sickness and it makes me wonder. Clearly Earth is no better off with the developments of the past couple hundred years. I’d be willing to sacrifice some comforts and cures for things in order to know what its like to live on a healthy planet.
