Ukraine: Oligarchic power struggle, not revolution

It looks like Ukraine is fucked no matter what:

…this does not mean the start of systematic democratic change, or that the new government is in any way going to challenge the root of pervasive corruption in Ukraine: poverty and inequality. Moreover, it is likely only to aggravate these problems, putting the burden of the economic crisis on the shoulders of Ukraine’s poor, not on the rich Ukrainian oligarchs.

So maybe that’s why western powers are just staying out of it.

It might not be possible to really fix things there without a complete takeover of the entire region which is probably not worth it.

But why do things come to this?
