Microsoft is Beyond Stupid (Windows 8)

Trying to use Windows 8’s (now I’m on 8.1) interface in earnest, really trying to use it and not just bypass it, but understand it and work with it… And then I realize how utterly bad it is. How stupid it is. What a horrible design.

To get one thing clear, what the MetroUI/Start Screen is is a launcher. Anyone who uses Android knows what a launcher is. With Android one can choose whatever launcher they like and use it instead of the default one. On my tablet I used to use LauncherPro. Now I love Nova Launcher Prime which also works great on my cheap $89 ZTE Avid phone.

If Windows Metro was a competing launcher on the Android market it would totally suck shit and everyone would laugh at how utterly terrible it is. Because, frankly, it is a piece of shit.

The fact that Microsoft came out with this – first major issue – and then had the audacity to force it down everyone’s through is indicative of a serious high-level breakdown at the company.

All anyone has to do is use a launcher like LauncherPro or Nova and see the realm of possibilities of how a well-designed launcher can operate.

But the sad thing also is that this paradigm really just doesn’t make sense for people using keyboards and trackpads, touch points, and mice – i.e. programmers, business people, just about anyone who does serious information work on their appliances and actually likes the idea of windows, which Windows is named after and which MS has abandoned with glee now.
