Watching this absolutely captivating jdrama based in Japan in 1960 and this one scene opened with a shot of this totally amazing reel-to-reel tape deck which has to be the coolest one I’ve ever seen.
The setting is the main character in a room full of police detectives who are concentrating on solving a deep mystery surrounding a murder, playing the music of a composer who is at the center of intrigue:
Here’s one more shot of the tape player. The tag indicates a brand “Hatsushiba” but after doing some sleuthing I found out that its actually (I think) a Swiss-made Nagra.
I actually had a reel-to-reel tape player when I was very small. Then I upgraded to a cassette player which at the time was like the most ultimate thing. I used to avidly record my favorite tv and radio shows with the casette deck and a condenser microphone.
I remember many times having the mic hanging around the channel dial knob of the tv and making sure everyone in my family in the living room was absolutely silent when I taped my shows (mostly Nova and Cosmos episodes).
Kudos to Nagra too because they’ve managed to keep up with the digital age.
