What makes this tape measure cool is that it is metric/imperial, not imperial/metric as almost all the ones in stores in America are. In an American store if you see tape measures, if they even have metric at all – which quite sadly most do not – they will list the imperial units first, e.g. 16’/5m. On the markings on the tape the imperial units will dominate and take a larger proportion of the area.
However this particular tape measure features both metric and imperial units and they are represented on the tape in equal proportion. I think this is important because we should all be switching to metric and we cannot rely on our dipshit government to do the right thing and take the lead.
I’ve already made the switch with respect to temperature. I use wunderground.com and have set my preferences to metric. I also set it any other place that I have the opportunity to.
For time measurement everyone should be using 24 hour format. Having a.m. and p.m. is stupid. Using a time like 21:30 is unambiguous and clear and should not be an issue for anyone who isn’t a flunkie.
Dates should be always written like 2013.08.03 (or 2013-08-03 which is ISO 8601 format) since in that format using a standard collation method all data will automatically sort chronologically. Writing dates like 8/3/13 is incredibly stupid. In the future, whenever you have to provide a date on a form, write it with the above format. Things will never change unless people take the initiative. If someone bitches about it, write “ISO 8601” next to the date and tell them to fuck off.
I’ve already posted about why our year should actually be 6249. In all truth time zones should also be elminated and there should just be one standard time for the entire world.
