Watching a documentary about gypsies and crime in Europe. It starts in Madrid and one sees the unbelievable boldness of children criminals who are part of a culture that is based on crime.
Then it jumps to Italy and they show how authorities in Milan have tried to crack down on them. But even after extensive raids the crime continues. In one scene at about 37’30” into the documentary, as they’re bulldozing a camp one of the women indignantly questions the police “Why are you so evil?” which, given what the rest of the documentary shows, seems highly incredulous.
But I see much the same types of dynamics operating here. The systemic breakdown with authorities to handle issues like this reminds me of the situation here.
I’m writing this as I live in a city where there are open air drug markets that stretch for blocks. In my building there are illegals who sell cocaine and who I think may also be prostituting out their teenage daughters.
Rather than get tough and crackdown we hear politicians pandering to the illegal communities promising them more “benefits” and things like free housing.
What’s disgusting too is that everyone knows how extensively the system has been gamed by illegals. Various types of INS fraud including marriage fraud are rampant. The amount of cases is so extensive that immigration courts do not even have the ability to handle all the cases. This is complete failure. And, rather than address that issue, the government now wants to allow 50 million immigrants, 2/3 of whom lack a high-school diploma, into the country and claim that the system will be reformed.
But people have no confidence any more in the federal government. Already the system has been gamed so extensively that it has made a ridicule of the immigration system and those who abide legally here. And now the public is supposed to believe that some shiny, new system is supposed to magically work even after the catastrophic failure and breakdown of the existing system? BS.
I know this has nothing to do overtly with the gypsy issue in Europe. But I think there are similarities. Just like the woman at the children’s center in Madrid, most politicians here are willing to sit on their ass and claim that one thing is happening while the reality is the complete opposite.
Here’s the video:
Also watched another documentary about a Chinese woman who interviews people on death row for a television show which was popular in a province in China. People who are going to die have one last chance to tell their story and express their sorrow or repentance. The death penalty is very rare here. But one wonders if there were interviews here like this what sort of impact it might have on our society and all the crimes being committed and to what extent it might serve to show the bitter reality of suffering caused by horrible crimes in cultures which often glorify gangsters and criminals.
Finally, I’m watching another shocking documentary about the meth problem in one California city. Some of it is hearbreaking but then other people like the some dedicated law enforcement and rehab staff are inspiring.
