Last week astronomers around the world were blown away as the by far strongest gamma ray burst ever recorded by human instruments was witnessed. Here on Earth what registers as a little blip on specially designed instruments which perhaps most humans on Earth wouldn’t even comprehend is, almost 4 billion miles across the universe, a massive violent explosion of a magnitude we can scarcely conceive as a star dies.
I would love to get the woman mentioned in this article to come downtown under the dome and tell people what happened and explain why this gamma ray burst was so significant and what it means, and what is the history of human understanding of stars and supernovae.
And yes, I would like slide projections onto the dome.
