Women should be programmers

Yesterday something rare occurred. I was sitting in a cafe and next to me there was a woman working on her computer. I know its not entirely 100% appropriate, but, out of curiosity, I briefly glanced at her screen and noticed that she was reading some page that had to do with programming.

I was shocked.

It was really shocking, in a good way. I would have expected her to be working on some marketing document. Or maybe something related to sociology. Or some business-related-type thing.

But there it was. Some page about programming. And she seemed like just a regular woman – albeit on the intelligent side. I’m actually really glad this happened.

One of the main reasons – maybe its the main reason actually – that I do not even consider working in the field of IT is = because men are so gross. I’m sorry to say this, but it is the sad truth. Men – in fact far too many are just boys I must say – are gross. They are disgusting. I just do not – I will not – put myself in situations where I have to interact with people like that, or perhaps a better way of framing it is to say that I will not put myself in situations where I’m exposed to that.

I respect myself as a human being too much to allow myself to be subjected to the interaction with people like that. I have simply seen enough – way too much – to know very well what is going on.

In fact there are actually also females in IT who are also the types of people I just don’t want to be exposed to. Think bossy, demanding, rude types. Think lack of feminine finesse and sensitivity.

When a person takes a job they are already going to have their plate full with the actual tasks that they need to accomplish for their job and all the ensuing things related to that which they need to take care of. I cannot conceive, then, why anyone would want to add layers of pure shit on top of that, shit which has nothing to do with the job and everything to do with social, psychological, and spiritual dysfunction.

Maybe that male testosterone drive that enables them to cut through and focus on getting from point A to point B in the most efficient manner possible, regardless of how many forests have to be chopped down in the process or how many organisms killed, is conducive to a certain type of programming success. But it is a type of success which I think is a failure and I think this type of failure permeates way too much of Information Technology and Personal and Collective Information Logos.

I am starting to realize that in fact women are far better programmers than men. Women are far better at interacting and working together. Just because they don’t go in and clear-cut the forest in order to accomplish getting from point A to point B in the most immediate manner possible, doesn’t mean that they are less talented or productive. It just means they’re wiser.
