Vous êtes wrong

I feel kind of sad at the events that have been occurring recently. The whole thing began when some people decided to publish cartoons mocking other people’s religion.

While I think that freedom of expression is important – after all I have this blog here and like to write – I don’t think that its right to think one has free license to insult other people.

In fact, I personally feel like anyone who would deliberately insult or mock Islam – particularly given the historical context of severe repression of Islamic peoples perpetrated by western nations – is basically an asswipe.

Of course if i were a ruler I would even allow people in my society to be asswipes if they want, even though I personally think its bullshit and ends up resulting in massive wastes of valuable resources which could be devoted to other, much more important, positive things.

Personally, I don’t feel sorry for those who published cartoons mocking Islam. Of course I feel sorry for any being that is killed violently, but I also feel sorry for all the waste and all the other people who are suffering who they seemed to not give a fuck about over their “cause” of freedom of expression.

A person who thinks they are automatically at the vanguard of the cause of freedom of expression by publishing insensitive, insulting things is arrogant and gross. Taking deliberate cheap shots at areas that are sensitive for others is not cool. Mocking and insulting others’ beliefs is totally different than, for example, lampooning a corrupt politician.

The world is filled with too many problems to want to choose to deliberately aggravate things out of arrogance and ignorance.

More than that, we should all learn to value and respect all our brothers and sisters and be sensitive to their beliefs. I guarantee you that is a vastly more important thing for an individual soul to devote oneself to than some misplaced cause for “freedom” led by idiots.

Perhaps some people disagree with particular aspects of what others believe. I cannot imagine that that would not always be so between any two people in the world – but to deliberately go out of one’s way to find those types of things and exacerbate them in a way that is insulting and mocking to many is going in the wrong direction.

Things get better in the world by being attuned to and sensitive to others. For heaven’s sake, the Islamic world has gone through total hell over the past century almost exclusively as a result of bullshit from the western world. Isn’t it time to leave them alone and let things heal, not rub salt in people’s wounds? What the fuck are people thinking by supporting something like the cartoons mocking Islam?

For heaven’s sake, use your free time to support things that are actually worthwhile and healing. Support the International Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, or Amnesty International for example.
